LMDS - Local Multipoint Distribution Services (LMDS) is a new technology which will aid in bringing high speed telephone, video programming distribution, video teleconferencing, wireless local loop telephony, high speed data transmission and internet services to both commercial and residential customers. The technology requires information concerning line-of-sight conditions between high-rise buildings in densely populated metropolitan areas.  Tobin International provides building footprint and 3-D building elevation data for a large number of metropolitan areas, both in the US and internationally.

Cellular and PCS - Tobin’s CoverVue product is a broad-area data set designed to support land-cover and land-use analysis for cell design and wave propagation modeling for the telecommunications industry.  CoverVue provides the support imagery as derived from individual satellite image bands, as required. The individual bands are fully orthorectified, mosaicked, and radiometrically balanced across multiple satellite scenes. The land cover/land use image coverage is divided into eight specific categories comprised of forest; grassland; water; dense urban; urban; suburban; transportation corridors and major features such as airports.

Tower Siting - A large portion of the current field reconnaissance work associated with tower facility management can be eliminated by providing spatial and imagery analysis capabilities within the office. Tobin has the ability to integrate high-resolution imagery of in-fill sites with tower location and attribute data directly into existing IT infrastructure, thereby allowing much of the up-front in-fill analysis work to be conducted directly from the desktop. The ability to conduct much of this analysis without leaving the office decreases the time and expense associated with physically driving to potential sites for in-fill building.  Tobin provides the data and technical services to successfully deploy appropriate imagery and tower data on the desktop within a client’s systems environment. In addition, introducing street address data on top of the tower and city image layer permits the definition of addresses of potential sites within areas of build up that do not currently have coverage, thereby providing support for marketing analysis activities.   Demographic data is also added to determine if a gap in coverage represents an area of high population density.
